5.       Understanding how the VM Direct and helloworld product works and what it is doing.

It is VERY important that you perform the necessary maintenance on your computer BEFORE you attempt to install the VM Direct software and allow the activeX connections.  It is like taking a trip across country…you should look at the systems on your car and perform the necessary repairs prior to embarking on your trip (checking the tires, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, oil, radiator…etc).  So let’s do that to the computer…now.

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!  You will need some to be successful…and up to 2 hours of your time.

  1. Make sure that the computer has all MS Windows and Internet Explorer updates installed.  In particular you need to have the latest Flash Player, Java Runtime, and dotNET 3.0 installed
  2. Make sure that your computer is working with Internet Explorer by checking out a few websites and moving around within them.
  3. Start by running your Lavasoft Adware software program (it is a free program that you can download from the internet) and deleting all of the files that it quarantines.
  4. Now empty the trash.
  5. Now run a defrag of your hard drive (just like you are doing on a monthly basis)(<Start> <All Programs> <Accessories> <System Tools> <System Restore>)
  6. When the defrag has completed, REBOOT your computer.
  7. Now Set a System Restore point and name it “pre video” (<Start> <All Programs> <Accessories> <System Tools> <Disk Defragmenter> highlight the C drive and start the defrag process
  8. Now go to your VM Direct Admin Center and click on the “Test Your PC” in the blue menu bar on the left column of the page.  If your PC doesn’t pass…stop, and contact us at support@helpfinder.us.
  9. Insert the VM Direct CD into your drive and let the driver install.
  10. Now Reboot your computer
  11. Let the computer come to a complete processing stop, and then plug in the USB camera.
  12. Let the system recognize the camera and install it.  The program will tell you when it has been successfully installed.
  13. Now go to your site…www.vmdirect.com/digital id.
  14. Click on login.
  15. Enter your digital id and password and click on the login button
  16. If the collaboration screen doesn’t start in the first few seconds…click the F5 key (refresh).
  17. You should now be at the inbox.

18.  Make sure your webcam is plugged in and turned on (and the shutter is DOWN, exposing the lens and mic.

19.  Press and hold CTRL.  DO NOT RELEASE IT UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO!

20.  Click on New Video Quickie.

21.  Keep holding CTRL down!

22.  Allow software to download.

23.  Keep holding CTRL down!

24.  If prompted with the “information bar”, click and choose to “Install ActiveX Control”.

25.  Keep holding CTRL down!

26.  If prompted with a Microsoft popup warning to install software, click “Install”.

27.  Keep holding CTRL down!

28.  The plugin will install without errors or further problems.

29.  Keep holding CTRL down!

30.  When the plugin starts, and you see your picture in the window, you can let go of CTRL.

  1. You’re done.

With this install you do not have to adjust your security settings or add them as a trusted site or enable or disable anything at all.

Remember…always use the LOG OFF icon when leaving this screen.  Otherwise you will need to click the F5 (refresh) button on your return.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO FOLLOW EACH AND EVERY INSTRUCTION LISTED…however,  IF YOUR VALUE YOUR TIME…this method has proven to be successful on ALL computers we have tested.
